Pages and sections
Page boundaries, section breaks, and headers and footers.
Page boundaries
Page boundaries are approximate and may differ from Word or from print. Zoom and the width of the window scale the paper without moving them. A page keeps room at its foot for the footnotes its text refers to. Keep with next is reflected in them; keep lines together and widow control are kept in the file but not drawn. Keep with next is ignored when the kept blocks cannot fit on one page, and never joins a table to the block after it.
Sections
Every section is read with its paper and margins, its headers and footers, and its starting page number. A section break starts a new page unless it is marked continuous and keeps the same paper size and margins. Where a section break stands inside a content control, what follows the break inside that control belongs to the next section, with that section's paper, headers, and footers. An edit that removes a paragraph carrying a section break is refused without a message; move the selection clear of it to edit the text around it. Section breaks have no visible marker.
Headers and footers
Each section's plain-text first, even, and default headers and footers are previewed on the page,
including decimal PAGE and NUMPAGES fields.
Editing a header or footer is not offered yet.
Limitations
Every page is drawn at the width of the first section's paper; a landscape section is paginated on its own height but drawn at that width.
A footnote that does not fit at the foot of its page moves whole to the next page rather than splitting, and one taller than a page stays on its page and scrolls within the room the page has.
A custom note separator a document defines is drawn as the default line.
A list inside a footnote or an endnote is drawn without its markers and hanging indent, and a tab inside one at the default width.
An even-page or odd-page section start is kept in the file but drawn as an ordinary new page.
Page numbering after a restart in a later section is wrong, and even and odd header selection is counted from the section rather than from the document, so the two can disagree in any section after the first.
Every section's own first page is drawn as a first page for the choice of header and footer.
